I Don’t Want a Sticker, Save the Paper for the Earth

forest

Let me stray a bit from my usual news-type posts and share a moment I had with my 5 year-old daughter today. I had to go to the bank and we were in line for well over ten minutes. She loves going to the bank because she gets stickers every time we go. As the teller was processing my deposit, she asked my daughter if she wanted a sticker and my daughter said “No, save the paper for the Earth.” My son is my gung-ho “go green” kid (see Alexander’s Green Tip of the Week) but my daughter is really starting to get interested in it. She was so proud of herself for declining the sticker today and it warmed my heart.

Prior to heading to the bank this morning, I caught my son taking a video of my daughter doing her own Green Tip of the Week. She was standing at the window talking about how we should all have a fun day, she then lifted the blinds and said “let the sun shine in.” It was just too cute!

So fellow mommas (and dads) – know that what you say to your children about going green really sinks in. It may be on their own time or in their own way, but they take it in.

How sweet! My mom likes to tell the story of me telling my dad when was around 2 years old when he went to throw away a baby food jar “no daddy we cycle.” :) Starts young haha.
