My Five Favorite Green Websites

I am subscribed to dozens of eco-friendly websites – from hard-core greenies to green parents and green energy to green business. Today I’m sharing with you my five favorite green websites.

  1. Mother Nature Network – Okay I am obviously a little biased here as I currently blog at MNN, but the Mother Nature Network gets top billing on this list. MNN is a fairly new website and it has only been a few months since its official launch. The website has something of interest for everyone – green business, food, tech, the home, parenting, etc. One thing that I’m particularly fond of is that MNN is a website that can be enjoyed by someone just starting on their own green journey to someone who’s been an enviro-nut for decades.
  2. Grist – Grist was one of the first environmental news websites that I can remember reading on a regular basis. Grist’s tagline is “Gloom and doom with a sense of humor®.” They certainly live up to that description.
  3. Alltop – Okay, so technically it isn’t a green website but the Environment and Clean Tech news section of Alltop is a great one stop shopping site for a variety of green news. All of the big names in green news sites are there in addition to the environmental section of major media outlets including MSNBC.com, the New York Times, and Reuters.
  4. GreenBiz.com – The GreenBiz website has green business news for a variety of sectors including Energy & Climate, Business Operations, Design & Innovation, Resource Efficiency, Marketing & Communications, Small Business, and Greener Careers.
  5. ScienceDaily’s Earth & Climate News – The science geek in me is coming out. I love ScienceDaily and it isn’t just because of the Earth & Climate News, I could spend hours on that site if I had the time. If you’re looking for highly technical information, ScienceDaily is your site.

As I mentioned previously, I have dozens of green sites bookmarked or in my Google Reader. It was really quite difficult to pick just five. None of these are specific to parenting but at one time or another, I’ve used information from each of these sites to help share important eco information with my children.

So now it is your turn. I’d love to hear what some of your favorite green websites are. Share yours by leaving a comment below.

The two green sites I’ve been reading since I began blogging back in August of 2008 are:

Crunchy Chicken
Peak Oil Hausfrau

By way of introduction:

Crunchy always has something a little provocative and funny to say. She really gets people motivated with her challenges like Freeze Your Buns Off. The conversations in her readers comments are interesting and informative to observe, and mostly they are congenial despite controversial topics.

Peak Oil Hausfrau writes about building family and local infrastructure to allow energy resilience. The Hausfrau is not a sensationalist, though some may think so. She gets me thinking about how dependent most of us are on oil and practical steps we can take within our communities. It’s good to have some of this working away in the back of my mind.

Good List. Now if I only had enough time to read endlessly…
