Minnesota Bans BPA in Baby Bottles

by Melissa on May 10, 2009

babybottleBaby bottles and sippy cups containing Bisphenol-A (BPA) will be outlawed in the State of Minnesota as of January 1, 2010. Baby bottles containing BPA were banned in Canada but the U.S. Food & Drug Administration has ruled that the products containing BPA are safe. Despite the ruling, six baby bottle manufacturers in the will stop selling baby bottles that use BPA here in the States. I guess this bugs me a bit because if the product is considered even remotely harmful, why would these manufacturers continue to make BPA-containing baby bottles for distribution in other countries? Just get rid of the toxin altogether.

Sippy cups and baby bottles containing a chemical suspected of being harmful will be banned in Minnesota starting Jan. 1. Gov. Tim Pawlenty signed a bill into law Thursday that prohibits the sale of bottles and cups that contain Bisphenol-A (BPA), which is found in many plastics and in canned food coatings.
