The Greening of BlogHer ’09

blogher1

Like nearly 1,500 other bloggers across the blogosphere, I will be heading to the BlogHer conference this week. I start out at BlogHer Business on Thursday and then head to the main BlogHer ’09 Conference on Thursday and Friday. I am a first-timer so I don’t know exactly what to expect, however I’m learning more about the conference as I read through all of the materials provided by BlogHer plus follow along on Twitter (#blogher #blogher09 #amgoingtoblogher).

Today, the organizers released the official conference guide – in digital format. The staff is greening up their conference, much to the delight of eco-bloggers everywhere.

Here are a few of the eco-friendly features at this year’s conference:

  • No plastic water bottles will be provided, instead the organizers will have water stations set up in conference areas.
  • A digital guide is being sent to all attendees with a note requesting that attendees not print it.
  • Swag tote made from recycled material.
  • More recycling containers will be available.
  • Conference organizers are encouraging that swag be recycled. If you can’t use something, bring it by the recycling suite where it will be repurposed or donated.
  • BlogHer is encouraging that attendees re-use their linens to cut down on water use by the laundry facilities.

These are just a few ways that BlogHer ’09 is going a bit greener. I love to see what was once considered an alternative movement become widely accepted. If you’re attending BlogHer, I’d love to meet you – follow me on Twitter @MommyMellie so that we can coordinate a place to meet.
