RTG’s 200th Post & Google’s Friend Connect

by Melissa on August 21, 2009

There’s nothing more fun than celebrating a blog milestone. I’m not quite at my one year-anniversary, but I am on my 200th post. Yes, that’s right, this is RTG’s 200th Post! I started this blog in Raising Them Green - Information to Help You Raise Eco-Conscious ChildrenJanuary of 2009 with a post about the CPSIA’s pending law: CPSIA Class Action Lawsuit in the Works. At that point, I loosely knew what I wanted to achieve with the blog but it took me ten more days to get my second post up.

However, those ten days were packed with brainstorming. I had to decide what type of information I wanted to share with the blogosphere and figure out how to draw people into my site. I decided on a mix of news-type information as well as personal experiences. The blog is now seven months old and is doing much better than I could have imagined. I’ve met a lot of great people through the blog and hope to meet many more.

And this brings me to the second part of the post…Google’s Friend Connect.

I’ve seen the Google Friend Connect application on many blogs that I visit, including some blogs with hundreds or even thousands of friends. I hesitated putting it on my blog because I knew I’d start with no friends and I didn’t want other people coming to the site to see that and think “must be a sucky site, she has no friends!” Well, after just a few days of the app live, I have a couple of friends – yay! So if you’re reading this and you’ve signed up with Google Friend Connect, please consider signing in and adding your name to my list of friends. It will give me the warm fuzzies, for sure!

Hey Melissa, Congratulations on your 200th post and on having some friends. I’m a friend too, but I’m not on FriendConnect. I just don’t need another system to get involved with – I’m already struggling! We can stick with Twitter and E-mail and visiting each other’s blogs and maybe even use the phone sometime, but for now no Facebook or FriendConnect – pleeeease…

Thanks Alison! I understand the not wanting another system thing, Twitter is much more convenient, isn’t it? hehe
