Last week, I posted an update about our waste free school lunch journey. The post generated a lot of traffic and I received many comments by email. It turns out that I’m not alone on my journey and a lot of parents are focused on waste free school lunches, not only for their own children but for their children’s friends and classmates – this is great!
One of the emails that I received was from Christy at Kids Konserve. Christy’s son watched Alexander’s Green Tip regarding waste free lunches; when I told my son that another boy watched his video he got a little shy but he was excited to hear of other kids joining him on his mission.
Christy and the team at Kids Konserve, as well as most of the other moms I know in the eco-movement, all share a similar thought – getting kids started on their eco-conscious journey at a young age is imperative to healing the environment. What we have to consciously think about now will come as second nature to these children when they’re adults.
Two moms, Chance Claxton and Lynn Julian, founded Kids Konserve in August 2008. After seeing first-hand the amount of waste that a child’s school lunch can generate, the duo decided to do something about it. Their answer was a waste-free lunch kit. Instead of building your own lunch kit, piece-by-piece, Kids Konserve has everything you need to pack your child’s waste-free school lunch. The Signature Waste-free Lunch Kit contains a stainless steel bottle, two stainless steel containers with leak proof lids, a Food Kozy ™ reusable bag, a cotton cloth napkin, and a recycled lunch sack. The products used in the kit are non-leaching and BPA, lead, and phthalate free.
To help you get started on your waste free school lunch adventure, Kids Konserve is offering Raising Them Green readers a 15% discount. Enter discount code RTG when you place your order to receive the 15% discount. This coupon code expires on 9/30/09.
