If you want a green home but need some help getting past all of the greenwashing out there, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has a solution – the Green Home Guide. The USGBC is the home of the world’s largest green building certification program – the LEED Rating Systems. On the heels of the organization’s national conference, Greenbuild 2009, the USGBC has announced the Green Home Guide website.
The Green Home Guide website has a variety of features including:
- Green home advice
- Information on the LEED for Homes Certification Program
- Ask a Pro
- Green Home Guide professional services directory
- Information on the REGREEN program
The advice and ask a pro sections feature articles on several green home topics including energy efficiency, green nurseries, eco-friendly furniture, and paints and coatings.
The questions in the nursery section of the website may be of interest to Raising Them Green readers. Although the site has just officially launched, there are quite a few questions already online including the use of an eco-friendly sealant for an MDF baby changing table, a safe drywall alternative for use in a green nursery, and whether it is better to refinish a hardwood floor or install new carpet.
As with everything else that comes out of the USGBC think tank, the Green Home Guide will likely be an industry-leading resource for consumers pursuing a Green(er) Home.
