The Smart Mama’s Lead Testing Makes the Washington Post

by Melissa on December 26, 2009

I opened up my Environmental Health News Above The Fold subscription today and one article caught my eye, ‘Citizen regulators’ take toy safety testing into their own hands. The article, which appears in the online edition of The Washington Post features Jennifer Taggart, aka The Smart Mama, using an XRF device to test for lead content in children’s products.

I have been following Jennifer on Twitter for a while and had the opportunity to meet her at BlogHer ’09. Jennifer was on the eco-panel with my fellow MNN blogger Siel Ju and others. Jennifer’s passion for the environment was very evident as I listened to her talk about MSDS’, product safety, and other eco-friendly topics. Although some of what she discussed was of a more technical nature, she presented the information in a way that anyone could understand – whether the blogger was new to environmental topics or a seasoned veteran. She’s also an author and I highly recommend her book: Smart Mama’s Green Guide: Simple Steps to Reduce Your Child’s Toxic Chemical Exposure.
