Book Preview: The SuperStress Solution

by Melissa on January 5, 2010

Over the next month, I will be participating in the 4-week diet and lifestyle program detailed by Roberta Lee, MD in her new book, The SuperStress Solution. The book will be available for purchase on January 12, 2010. Today I’m going to be writing a preview of the book and then each week, I’ll update with a new post on my progress as well as my thoughts on the book and the program. At the end of the four-week program, I’ll write an overall review.

What is The SuperStress Solution?
The SuperStress Solution is a new book and 4-week program from Roberta Lee, MD. The following is an excerpt from the book’s back cover.

SuperStress [is] a uniquely twenty-first-century medical condition produced by the hectic times in which we live. Accumulated stress causes your body to continually release stress hormones. This process diverts the energy and nourishment needed to keep you healthy and, as many clinical studies have shown, leads to depression, weight gain, loss of libido, anxiety, headaches, insomnia, early aging, heart disease, gastrointestinal disorders, and a host of other chronic conditions.

Who is Roberta Lee, MD?
Dr. Lee is vice chair of the Department of Integrative Medicine at Beth Israel’s Continuum Center for Health and Healing in New York City. Lee is also a graduate of Dr. Andrew Weil’s Program of Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. Dr. Weil is known for his integrated approach to health including the popular 8 Weeks to Optimum Health program.

Am I SuperStressed?
Yes. As the mom of two children with special health care needs that is balancing a family, a freelance writing career, and the last semester of my undergraduate degree program, I am definitely in the SuperStressed category.

Week One
Of the course of the next seven days, I will embark on week one of the program: Building Calm Into My Life. I’ll be journaling, working on personal affirmations, adding a few supplements to my diet, and meditating. Just reading this has me relaxed.

Join me next week as I share with you my thoughts about week one on the program, tell you more about my SuperStress type, and begin week two of the program: Detoxifying Mind, Body, Spirit, and Surroundings.
