Getting Into Our Summer Groove

It has been a little quiet here at Raising Them Green because we are all trying to get into our summer groove. To make things more exciting, we actually moved into a new house. So not only are the kids adjusting to life without school Monday through Friday but they are doing so in a new house. Things are actually going really smoothly and we’re all excited to be moved in.

Although we’ve just moved in and the house is new (as in built from the ground up), there is something that I already need to change – our lights. Surprisingly all of the lights in the house are traditional incandescent. We had ceiling fans installed (we’re in Arizona, we need ceiling fans) and the light kits in those have CFLs but that’s it. We have several different rooms with can lights and so I’m looking for an LED alternative to those and then the work will begin to replace the other light bulbs with CFLs or LEDs.

While the light thing is a bit frustrating, there is one thing that I especially love – the recycled marble countertop, bathtub surround and shower enclosure in my master bathroom. Remnant marble pieces were gathered together and then somehow melded into solid pieces. The kids love that the product is recycled and complain that they don’t have the same product in their bathroom.

Thanks for stopping by and if you get a minute, subscribe to my blog – now that we’ve moved and adjusted to our new summer routine the kids and I will be back to our regular blogging schedule!

It is really good to know about the recyclable stuff used in your house. Also use of CFLs wherever required is a nice idea for saving energy. Nice post.
